Johns Hopkins University

Johns Hopkins University, a Baltimore institution. An avid abolitionist, Johns Hopkins was not a doctor as some might have guessed, but a successful business man and philanthropist. My father graduated from JHU circa 1950, courtesy of the GI Bill.

Poly, concluded.

Found one more of the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. This card is a little older than the previous ones. Check out the old cars and the tiny people in them!

Did you know that Dr. Wilmer Dehuff served as principal of the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute for 37 years, from 1921 to 1958?

Revisiting Poly

This card seems almost identical to the previous posting, but it's actually a little smaller. Note, too the different titles at bottom, along with the different clouds and flag.  It was not uncommon for card firms to share negatives; details could be hand-altered.

Dear Velma, I am glad you are enjoying yourself. I know they are nice places as I have been there too. I won't be here much longer. I'll be home Friday at about dinnertime. I am having a grand time. Lots of Love, Virgina Lee (P.S.) I would love for you to be here with me.

My father's old high school - Baltimore Polytechnic Institute - Baltimore, MD

I have a number of cards that are tied to my family in some way. This is the high school, "Poly", where my father graduated from in 1944, prior to going off to the war in Europe.

The Baltimore Polytechnic Institute was founded in 1883.  This is a depiction of the relocated school, (1913), at Calvert Street and North Avenue.  For more information about Poly's history...
