Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD

Opening on May 7, 1889 the Johns Hopkins Hospital was to be a place of care and healing for all people regardless of financial status, age, sex, or race. Although Hopkins died in 1873, his enduring vision for the hospital included its purpose as a teaching hospital closely related to a medical school.

Johns Hopkins - Old Campus in Downtown, Baltimore

I recently acquired this multi-view card of buildings from the original downtown Baltimore campus of Johns Hopkins University. From left to right: McCoy & Levering Hall, Treasurer's Office, Biological Laboratory, and McCoy Hall (bottom left). Sent from an unknown student to Dr. Albert Johannsen in Needleton, Colorado. Dr. Johannsen was a noted microscopical petographer of the era.

9-13-'03 Dear friend: We are now all back again in Baltimore. Tomorrow school begins, and that means work for us all. Trusting you are enjoying good health. I am "Can you guess?"

Johns Hopkins University

Johns Hopkins University, a Baltimore institution. An avid abolitionist, Johns Hopkins was not a doctor as some might have guessed, but a successful business man and philanthropist. My father graduated from JHU circa 1950, courtesy of the GI Bill.
