The Union Memorial Hospital, Johnston Hospital and Nurses Home, Baltimore, MD

Founded by seven women, the Union Protestant Infirmary was established in 1854.  Renamed Union Memorial Hospital in 1920, it has become a premiere health provider in the Baltimore area.

Sinai Hospital

The first name of this historic hospital was "Baltimore Asylum for Israelites" and was later called the "Hebrew Hospital of Baltimore". In 1959, this Jewish-sponsored teaching hospital moved to a brand new building in Northwest Baltimore.

Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD

Opening on May 7, 1889 the Johns Hopkins Hospital was to be a place of care and healing for all people regardless of financial status, age, sex, or race. Although Hopkins died in 1873, his enduring vision for the hospital included its purpose as a teaching hospital closely related to a medical school.

The Church Home and Infirmary of the City of Baltimore, MD

This beautiful building housed The Church Home and Infirmary of the City of Baltimore, which was the forerunner of Church Home and Hospital. Founded in 1857, it was a joint operation of a hospital for the poor and a place of residence for elderly women. It was affiliated with the Episcopal Church.

Baltimore City Hospital and College of Physicians and Surgeons


City Hospital, founded by six "Sisters of Mercy" was the forerunner of Mercy Hospital. The college was in existence from 1872 to 1915, when it merged with the Medical College of the University of Maryland. For more information on the college...
